A Positive Step of Monroe County, Inc. (APSMC) is a small non-profit dedicated to helping high risk adolescents and their families improve their chance for future success. We do this by offering programs throughout the Florida Keys that focus on improving behavioral health, building strong families, and increasing the real-world skills of teens.
A program funded through
the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice whose goal is to “redirect” adolescents involved in the juvenile justice system away from residential treatment. We provide in-home Functional Family Therapy (FFT), allowing the youth and family to receive treatment in their own community. The rates of re-offense are lower for adolescents who participate in Redirection than for those who are sent to residential commitment.
A summer youth employment program designed for kids returning to High School in the fall. Idle Hands, which began in 2011, offers kids two weeks of employment training classes, then six weeks of paid internship experience in various workplaces throughout Key West. The City of Key West has been a major funder of this program since 2012, and has also offered employment positions for the youth in the program. Idle Hands is greatly supported by our local fundraising efforts.
In the upcoming year, APSMC plans to expand to include vocational job training and a fatherhood program for young men ages between 16-24.
APSMC will use evidence based practices whenever possible for therapeutic interventions.
APSMC is a 501 (c) 3 organization, and all donations are tax deductible.
Please contact Billy Davis at (305) 304-1969 for more information on any of our programs, or to make a donation.
